Concepts

  • Input: clean water
  • Output: only toilet paper, dirty water, body fluids
    • No wipes, solids
    • With children, pets: keep lid down, protect against things falling, like toys
  • An approach: Observe a good working toilet in home and the one causing problem and look for differences

Options:

  • Plunging: prefer elongated toilet plunger, not traditional one
    • Be aggressive with plunging like CPR
    • Put plunger through a hole in garbage bag and put bag over toilet to make clean up easier
  • Snake aka augur
    • Needs to be specifically for use with a toilet
    • Wrap snake with a pool noodle / cloth to avoid damaging toilet bowl
  • Dawn dish soap
    • Used to break down stuff
    • Pour 1 cup and let sit 1 hour, pour warm water into toilet, Resume plunging if needed
  • Check base of take, base of toilet overflow tank, water shut off valve
  • Recommend: avoid caulk around toilet to see issues when they occur
  • Use paper nail file, emory board. Do not use pumice stone / hard material that can damage bowl
  • If toilet is low flow, can be due to mineral deposits blocking holes, use vinegar or CLR to clean holes
  • Recommend: no tank/bowl hangovers
  • Caused by water Leaking Tank to Bowl
  • Check flapper in tank, if needing replacement:
    • Stop water
    • Flush
    • Extract flapper and take to store to buy new one
